Venezuela
In the spring of 2008, I travelled with three other members of the Chicago Religious Leadership Network on Latin America to Venezuela.  CRLN recently launched a new program to support alternative emerging democracies in the region; our job was to learn, connect, and share our first-hand view of this country that is so much in the news here at home.  We were in Venezuela when FARC rebels in Colombia released hostages after negotiations with Hugo Chavez, and we were there when Colombia responded by crossing the border into Ecuador to kill several FARC members.  Most of what we saw and heard during these days bore little relationship to what people in the U.S. were seeing and hearing about Venezuela in the mainstream media.  Nothing like seeing it up close and personal - so read and enjoy the fellowing stories and pictures about the people and places I visited in beautiful, diverse and questing Venezuela.
